Pharmacy First

Everyone can go and speak with their local Pharmacist for advice on a range of health conditions. They can advise whether you need to see a doctor or can try self treatment first. They may be able to provide an over the counter treatment you can buy.

If you have any of the following conditions and are over 3 months old a participating pharmacy can treat you under Pharmacy First scheme

  • Athlete’s foot
  • Bacterial conjunctivitis
  • Constipation
  • Dental pain
  • Diarrhoea
  • Earache
  • Haemorrhoids
  • Hay fever
  • Head lice
  • Insect bites/stings
  • Sore throat
  • Teething
  • Temperature/fever
  • Threadworms
  • Thrush

If you qualify for free prescriptions you will receive the appropriate treatment free of charge. Even if you pay for prescriptions the cost of medication under Pharmacy First is usually less than a prescription charge.
